BAMS Medal Project 2014

Blood on Your Hands - BAMS Live Medal Project Entry

This medal emulates the strong iconic stag, reminiscent of the noble stags which adorn collectable hunting medals. However when this medal is turned and the true horror of death and pain is revealed. The viewer will then notice, as the medal is handled, that the sombre black surface surrounding the forlorn stag has turned a deep shade of red under their hands.  This represents the blood on our hands and shows both the iconic and iconoclastic sides of hunting.

Bronze, acrylic, thermo paint

The Truth

Side one of this mixed media, digitally led medal portrays the neglected knowledge that the great hunt is in fact a blood sprort, despite it previously being portrayed something to be proud of. Subtle blood spatters can be glimpsed through the strong, iconic trophy. When the medal is then turned the vivid image of the blood is as unavoidable as this seeminly obvius truth, showing both the iconic and iconoclastic sides of hunting.

Clear acylic, pewter alloy, ink, laser cut.
